The good news: Zhang has signed on to star in a 30 million dollar action epic under the production banner that brought us "The Matrix" and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The bad news: It is inexplicably titled "Laundry Warrior." Yeah. Your guess is as good as mine. Here is a plot synopsis:
"STORY LINE: Yang, the World's Greatest Swordsman, leaves his clan and flees Asia with baby April, the last of the enemy bloodline. Hoping to make a new life for himself as a humble laundryman in America's Wild West, he comes to know and care about the people of Lode, a small, forgotten town filled with carnival players. While there, Yang finds a pupil/lover in Lin, (a beautiful Asian girl), but also makes new enemies with the Hell Riders, a marauding gang of vicious thugs. Reluctant to stand forward and defend the town, because it will mean revealing his identity, Yang is soon forced to pick up his sword and lead the "carnies" and townsfolk in to an incredible battle against the loathsome Hell Riders. At the pitched height of that battle, Yang's past, the Asian sword clan he left behind, ("The Sad Flutes"), attack raising the battle to an epic crescendo..."
That sounds kind of cool actually, more western than kung fu epic. But hell, laundry warrior?! I do laundry sometimes, quite often actually because I'm a slob, and at no point during that loathsome process do I feel anything close to a warrior. Laundry loser is more like it.
The film hasn't even raised it's entire budget yet so don't start looking for it until late 2009. You have plenty of time to separate your whites from your colors.
Here is a proposed costume design for her character that has been floating around the net:
Now here is a proposed costume design I came up with just now:
Zhang Ziyi and Takeshi Kaneshiro have both signed on to star in "Deng Dai" which translates to "wait" or "waiting." Yeah, I've been using my Rosetta Stone software. It shows doesn't it? Anyway , this will be the first time the pair has worked together since "House of Flying Daggers."
The film chronicles eighteen years in the life of a doctor and nurse who develop and forbidden love for one another. They must wait for many years before being allowed to be together.
Ok I know Asia loves forbidden romance stories, but doctor and nurse? Is that really forbidden? It happens all of the time on "Grey's Anatomy." Next will be a movie about a coffee shop employee and customer who develop an intense love but are not allowed to act on it due to strict employee/customer codes of contact.
Peter Chan will be directing the film and it will be released sometime in 2009.
