Several Asia-centric entertainment sites have begun touting "Rush Hour 3" starlet Zhang Jingchu as "The next Zhang Ziyi". Don't believe the hype! Why? Because they are both Asian women making the rounds in American cinema. Actually, what Ziyi does can be considered cinema. "Rush Hour 3"?! The only thing sadder than "Rush Hour 3" would be a third installment in that Jackie Chan/Owen Wilson wild west franchise. Wait, there isn't a third one is there?
So why else then? The surname? I'm not buying it. Zhangs, but no Zhangs.
I heard she's dumb too. Somebody told me she thinks that's a real penguin:
I don't know when this photograph was taken, what the words say, or even what the point is. If it's an ad I want to buy whatever they are selling. If it's not, I'm buying anyways. Ah to go back in time and be born an Israeli venture capitalist who is worth many billions of dollars. Damn you fates! In the meantime, gotta hop in that cold, cold shower. You should do the same.
In China, Zhang Ziyi is so popular that people recently threw a big conference just to announce she had joined the cast of an upcoming biopic about the opera singer Mei Lanfang. Not even George Clooney commands that kind of respect here. Maybe Lindsay Lohan but that press conference would probably be for different reasons altogether.
Speaking of, once I thought friends and family were throwing me a press conference, you know, just because. Turns out it was an intervention. Booooo. I was ready for my close up too. Here is a photo of the lovely Ziyi at the event.

The movie is filming now for a release next year. And don't worry. I'm fine. Still ready for a close up though.
